Blade: Opinel Stainless Blades Are Made From Sandvik Stainless Steel, Modified Steel Shade 12C27, developed specially For Opinel, and is renowned for its excellent cutting properties. Stainless Blades are corrosion-resistant, and do not require any special washing methods. Opinel Stainless Blades are excellent knives and one of the best stainless steel blades for general use, with a rockwell hardness of 57-59. The handle shape has remained unchanged since its design by Joseph Opinel in 1890. The handle is varnished to protect against moisture and staining. The handle wood is made of Beech Wood which has a fine homogenous grain; that provides excellent mechanical strength. The wood comes from local sustainably managed forests. Care Of The Handle: Use a sponge or clean cloth moistened with warm water; then wipe off immediately. Absolutely avoid running it under water and allowing water to penetrate into the groove, as this will cause warping. The Locking System was added in 1955 and designed by Marcel Opinel. This Virobloc Safety Catch System (From Size 6 Upwards) makes it possible to lock the blade in the open position and the closed position. To Operate Lock, place thumb over gap and gently twist .The blade is locked into place to close knife, turn lock in opposite direction. Model: 000693
